Maia Vitikos, a fifteen year old girl, is told she's a child of Greece, born in a small fishing village, gifted or cursed with abilities frighteningly similar to those of the Gorgons from deep in the clouded myths the country. Stolen from or given away by (she's unsure) her parents, she is the adopted daughter of a sideshow huckster, Rictus Finch, who treats her like a slave.

Called Medusa’s Daughter and thrown in with other “eerie people ” of lesser talents and uglier personalities, her abilities seem the only worthwhile aspect of the entire traveling show, for people from small Eastern European towns visit in droves to see her work her magic.

Disliked, by the other performers, Maia's only friend is Skelly, the ticket-taker, janitor, and shill of the show and an alcoholic. An exceptionally tall and slightly freakish man, he is the only caring individual in Maia';s life and has, over the years, taught her to read and to think critically about issues she';s presented with.

Maia spends her days hidden inside her trailer or wandering the sideshow community, separated from others by her sensitivity, latent intelligence, and the freakish talent she has for controlling her hair. She has grown up wondering who her parents are and if, indeed, they were so horribly ashamed of her as she was told. Further, because of Rictus Finch, she believes herself a monster dredged up and spit out by the past. However, it';s her desire to understand her own history that sets into motion the cascading events that lead to her growth and freedom.

Written as a novel and produced as a graphic novel complete with startling imagery by Steven Parke, this piece is sure to put Narrative Ink on the industry’s and public's radar.
